Move Over Batmobile, The "Downton-mobile" Is In Town!

Last week, on my way home from work, I came upon a most wonderful and unexpected surprise. As I was waiting to cross the street near Union Square, I found the cast of my beloved Downton Abbey staring at me. It took me a second to register the situation, and my first thought was, "what the hell is a Downton Abbey truck doing in Union Square?" As a hard core Downton fan, I felt compelled to investigate.

I quickly learned that this was a publicity stunt designed to promote the British drama, whose fourth series will be airing in the USA in January. (I am so excited!) Apparently this event was advertised on the radio --- listeners were informed that the "Downton-mobile" (as I have dubbed it) would be parked all over the city --- but since I do not listen to the radio, I was totally unaware of this.
I have to say, kudos to the creative minds at PBS. The masterminds behind this promotional stunt hired a bunch of actors to dress like the "downstairs" characters from the show." These characters held up signs advertising the show, whilst also giving out free cups on tea and biscuits! How wonderfully British.
I will admit, the actor pretending to be a chauffeur (or footman) was not as good looking as that handsome left wing Irish socialist, Tom Branson, but he was still easy on the eyes. Also, I am not a fan of rose tea, which is apparently the official drink of Downton Abbey, but hey, how could I resist?! It's not everyday that one is served special Downton Abbey tea by house maids!
The line was not very long…but there were certainly lots of people taking pictures!
My family and I are hardcore Downton Abbey fans, although we are not pleased by how much of a soap opera it has become. Series three was brutal --- so emotional and heartbreaking. Julian Fellowes, if you are reading this, which would actually be amazing if you were, please stop with the tragedies! You are killing me! (No pun intended).
Walking home with my free tea, biscuit, and Downton Abbey promotional postcard
I have to say, this was pretty awesome. A totally unexpected and wonderful surprise. I couldn't stop smiling then and I can't stop smiling now. This is one of the reasons why I love living in Manhattan --- so many small and unexpected moments that can really lift your whole day! (By the way, I don't think i'll be able to throw out with special Downton Abbey disposable cup! So cool!!!) Now, I will have to begin my countdown to the series 4 premiere of Downton Abbey!!!
