Skyfall: 007's Triumphant Return

After almost of year of waiting for it's release and months of trying to get to the movie theater, I finally watched SKYFALL. HUZZAH!!!! I am over the moon! I don't know if you guys have seen this movie, but I LOVED IT. This movie was incredible, one of the best Bond films, in my opinion.

Let me take a moment to admit, I am a HUGE James Bond nerd. I mean it. I have seen all of the films more than a dozen times EACH (except for Skyfall, obviously) and can probably act them all out. I have more books on James Bond than I would care to admit (including the book series) and I am the undefeated champion of 007 "Scene It." I mean, need I continue? I could spend days talking about James Bond and never get bored.
The six faces of James Bond

So, as a Bond fanatic, I was dying of anticipation when Skyfall came out and I was so pleased that I loved the film as much as I did --- especially since the last one (Quantum of Solace) was a bit of a let down...but we won't go there.

Now, you may be wondering, why do I think Skyfall so good? Well, I will tell you!

1) The Plot
It was great! I thought the plot was clever and filled with a fair amount of plot twists. I know that I was kept on the edge of my seat! I also liked that Bond's age was a running joke.
2) The Writing
Such a well written and clever script! The dialogue was cheeky and fun, but at the same time edgy and serious. Really really really loved the writing.

3) SKYFALL, the song
Adele, well done! I'll admit, when I first heard the song, I wasn't impressed, but the more I listened to it, the more I liked it. I was bewitched basically. There is something so alluring and mysterious and haunting about the melody. Also, Adele sounds amazing! Now, I can't stop listening to it and "Skyfall" has become one of my all time favorite Bond theme songs!
4) The Opening Credits
As much as I love Bond, I've never really loved the opening credits to the movie. I don't know, artistic naked women...not my favorite. I get so bored. That said, I was very pleased with the opening design of Skyfall. Very creative and interesting. Last time I got this excited was the opening of "Casino Royale."
5) Javier Bardem
He was such a great villain! Wow. I don't want to give anything away, but I was so impressed by his performance. Especially in the homo-erotically charged scene between Craig and Bardem...
6) Ben Whishaw as "Q"
When I learned that Ben Whishaw was cast as "Q" for Skyfall, I almost peed my pants I was so happy. I am such a Ben Whishaw fan and he was PERFECT as "Q". You may have seen Ben Whishaw as Ariel in Julie Taymor's 2010 version of "The Tempest" or as John Keats in the 2009 film "Bright Star." Alternatively, if you like BBC television, Ben Whishaw plays Freddie in "The Hour."
7) It pays homage to 50 years of Bond
This may be my favorite part of Skyfall. 2012 marked the 50th anniversary of James Bond and I liked the subtle ways in which Skyfall paid homage to past films. For example, the most famous of Bond's cars --- the silver Aston Martin DB5 --- makes a cameo appearance. (Did I mention that this is my dream car?) I don't want to give anything away, but trust me, if you love Bond and you have seen the other movies, you will instantly see what I am talking about!
Gosh, I am both pleased and upset that I saw Skyfall. I am pleased because the anticipation was killing me and I loved it. I am upset because now I have to wait I-don't-know-how-long until the next Bond film! I really hope they don't take another four years!!! In my opinion, the only thing that could've made this film better, was if all of the past bonds had made cameo appearances. That would have been AMAZING.
