Stephen Fry Stars as "Malvolio" in Twelfth Night on Broadway!

Image
A few weekends ago, I had the great pleasure of seeing "Twelfth Night" on Broadway with my parents. My family and I are avid fans of "the Bard,"so we were delighted when we learned that a new Shakespeare company would be coming to New York City. This all male ensemble is in town performing two of Shakespeare's plays: "Twelfth Night" and "Richard the III." For us, the question wasn't "will we go?", but rather, "which play will we see?"  The decision was actually much easier than you may think. The choice was "Twelfth Night" --- without a doubt. Why? Because my beloved Stephen Fry is starring in it! For those who are unfamiliar with Stephen Fry, he is the most amazing person EVER and frankly is probably considered one of Britain's national treasures (or at least he should be). Fry is an: author, comedian, director, presenter, genius, I mean…the list is so long and I could go on and on. He truly is a R

Apologies for the Lack of New Recipes!

Hello All! Just wanted to say hello to everyone and check in! I also wanted to apologize for the lack of recipe blog posts. As you have noticed, my more recent blog posts have been about what I've been up to, be it food or non food related. I hope that's ok! I will confess to you all, life has gotten uber complicated and busy (c'est la vie, right?) Between my classes (physics and biochemistry), meeting with my tutors (physics and MCAT), volunteering at the cancer center, going to the gym, going to class, studying, preparing to apply to medical school….lots and lots to do! Unfortunately, this means that I don't get to spend a lot of time in the kitchen or when I do, I make really easy things. (Either stuff already on the blog or stuff not really blog worthy). I have a loooooong list of recipes that I am dying to try, so once I get around to it, you'll be the first to know!

Impromptu Visit to the Union Square Green Market

Image
Last week, I was on my way home from my biochemistry lecture when I paid an impromptu visit to the Union Square green market. I was overdue for grocery shopping so this was very convinient! To be honest, I was also a little surprised to see the market active on a monday morning…I always thought the green market was a weekend thing! Well, eager to see what goodies I could find, I began to explore the market.  Since it is autumn, the apples are abundant! So many colors, tastes, and varieties. Every stall was overflowing with apples! Honeycrisps, Fuji, Gala,….so many to choose from!!! Lots of vegetables and wonderful produce to choose from as well. Greens, turnips, butternut squash, broccoli…I had a lot to choose from! Dinner was starting to look delicious. I've never personally purchased seafood from Union Square, but I know that this stall is somewhat famous and reputed to sell really good quality fish! Celebrating Halloween in Brooklyn (a new annual tradition for me!)

Image
One year after Hurricane Sandy, I returned to Brooklyn to celebrate Halloween and give out candy with my best friend E. At home, our driveway is hidden from the street, so we never really had trick-or-treaters come and visit. This all changed last year, when I spent Halloween with E and got to experience Brooklyn stoop-culture Halloween. What fun! The kids are all so adorable, the costumes are great, and it's just so much fun hanging out with E and her mom!  E and her family have the best candy and they buy A LOT of it! This is only a small fraction of the total candy purchased! E's family also have great decorations. Special shout out to the jack-o-lanterns, which were carved by E.  Some trick-or-treaters This family was one of my favorite trick-or-treaters that we encountered. So cute! Great jack-o-lanterns E and I sat on the stoop for several hours and we had so much fun giving out candy to the trick-or-treaters. We also got to catch up, crack joke

McNulty's Rare Teas & Choice Coffee

Image
A few weeks ago, I was in the West Village with my friend, S. We were in the middle of studying for our physics exam when we got peckish. We opted for a study break and decided to go looking for dinner. This brought us to the West Village. I'll be honest, I don't know this neighborhood very well, so I was following S's lead. She knows a great Thai place so we took a lot of backroads and explored the West Village on our way to dinner. The best thing we discovered, in my mind, was "McNulty's Rare Teas & Choice Coffees."  109 Christopher St, West Village This quaint little shop is FILLED with the largest selection of tea and coffee that I have ever seen. The variety of teas and brands were outstanding, and the smell of coffee was delicious! What a cute little shop.  so many teas~! old school weight to measure tea and coffee We didn't have a lot of time to browse, what with picking up our dinner and needing to get back to the lib
